May 17th, 2014: The Cardiac Mechanics Research Group mourns the loss of our wonderful friend and colleague, Dr. Anushka Michailova, who was suddenly and tragically taken from us on May 17th. Anushka was a brilliant and passionate scientist who made seminal contributions to the understanding of cardiac excitation-contraction coupling and the calcium signaling in cardiac myocytes. She was a research scientist in the Department of Bioengineering for the past 15 years, collaborated with colleagues from across campus and around the world, and was a beloved mentor to numerous post-doctoral scholars, graduate and undergraduate students. We will all miss Anushka greatly and convey our heartfelt sympathies to her family.
