Administer insulin before a meal or snack:

Jeremy uses an insulin pump that delivers basal insulin and mealtime insulin boluses via an infusion set with a cannula that he inserts in his back or thigh. The set and the insulin in his pump are changed every three days. He does not currently need to wear his pump during exercise, but it is important that the pump and insulin vials do not get hot. They should not be left in a hot car or direct sunlight. If the pump has a malfunction, Jeremy also carries insulin injection pens.

Insulin is rendered ineffective if it gets hot. Insulin should never be left in the sun or a hot car. Jeremy should not take a shower or go in a hot tub within 30 minutes of injecting insulin.
